The short version
- Your DNA never reaches us. The relatedness check runs entirely in your browser. Your raw DNA files and your results are never uploaded, stored or seen by us.
- We only receive what you type into our forms: the early-access form and, if you request one, the carrier check request.
- Analytics without cookies. We use PostHog to understand how people use the site, including session recordings on most pages with everything you type masked. The DNA check page is never recorded, and nothing from your DNA files ever reaches it. No ads, no cookies.
- We never sell or rent your information, and we never share it for advertising.
- You can ask us to delete your email at any time: founder@dontmarryyourbro.com.
This policy explains how Lotusbud LLC ("we", "us") handles information on DontMarryYourBro.com (the "site"). It covers the website, the free tools and the relatedness check.

Your DNA
When you use the relatedness check at /check, the two raw DNA files you choose are opened and compared by code running in your own browser, on your own device. Your files, the genetic markers in them and your results are never sent to our servers or to anyone else. The only thing your browser downloads for the check is a public genetic map from our site.
The DNA check page is never recorded. Our analytics only learn that a check was started and finished, and which companies' file formats were used. They never receive your files, their names, your matches, your results or the relationship we estimate.
Because we never receive your DNA or your results, we can't store, sell, share or lose them. When you close the page, they're gone from it. If you share a result using the share button, you choose what to share and where.
Only compare a DNA file if it's yours, or if the person it belongs to has agreed. The check asks you both to confirm that.
What we collect
Early-access form. If you join the list, we receive:
- your email address
- what you're interested in (the relatedness check, the carrier check or both)
- why you're here (for example "we're engaged"), if you pick a reason
- your country, which the form pre-fills from your browser's language setting and you can change
- the page you signed up from, and the date and time
Carrier check requests. If you request a carrier check, we receive your name, your email, your region and, if you choose to add them, your partner's name and email. We don't ask for health records or test results.
Analytics. When you browse the site, PostHog records which pages you visit, which buttons and links you click, how far you scroll, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. A random anonymous ID is kept in your browser's local storage so visits can be counted.
Session recordings. On most pages, PostHog records how you move through the page (clicks, scrolling and what's on screen) so we can find what's confusing or broken. Everything you type into a form is masked before it leaves your device, and names and emails shown back to you are blocked out. The DNA check page is never recorded.
Linking a signup to your visits. When you join the list or request a carrier check, we save a random code with your submission and give the same code to our analytics, so we can see which pages led you to us. The code never contains your name or email, and we never send your name or email to our analytics provider.
Information sent automatically. Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information when your browser loads a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. It uses this to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors. We don't use it to profile you.
Emails you send us. If you contact us, we receive your message and email address.
We don't collect DNA data, health records, payment details or precise location.
How we use it
- To reply to a carrier check request with the options, pricing and next steps for your region, and to contact your partner about it if you gave us their email.
- To send you updates, new tools and offers if you joined the early-access list. Every email lets you unsubscribe.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it, for example which pages people find helpful and where they get stuck. We look at analytics as totals and trends.
- To reply to you if you contact us.
- To keep the site secure and working.
Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We only share it with service providers who help us run the site, under agreements that limit their use to providing that service:
- Vercel hosts the site and stores early-access signups and carrier check requests in private storage in the United States.
- PostHog provides our website analytics, hosted in the United States.
- Lab and physician partners, only after you approve a carrier check option we send you, receive the details needed to arrange your test. We never pass on a request without your approval.
- Google Fonts serves the site's fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads fonts.
- An email or customer-management service, if we use one to send launch emails, receives your email address and choices.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Links to other sites. Links to AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage and others take you to their sites, where their privacy policies apply. Some are affiliate links, which means those companies may use their own cookies to record that you came from us.
Tools that stay on your device
The cousin calculator, the shared cM calculator and Grandma's compatibility test run in your browser. Anything you type into them, including names, birthdays and gotras, is not sent to us.
Cookies and analytics
We don't set cookies, and we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking tools. Our analytics provider, PostHog, keeps a random anonymous ID in your browser's local storage so we can count visits, and records sessions on most pages with form inputs masked, as described above. It never captures what you type, and never records the DNA check page.
You can turn analytics and session recordings off on this device at any time:
How long we keep it
We keep early-access signups until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep carrier check requests while we're helping you and for up to 24 months afterwards, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Analytics data is kept for up to 12 months. Our hosting provider keeps routine request logs for a short period.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to stop emailing you. Email founder@dontmarryyourbro.com from the address you signed up with, and we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
US state privacy laws
Residents of California and other states with privacy laws have rights to know what we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We don't sell or share personal information in that way. To use your rights, email founder@dontmarryyourbro.com. You can also use an authorized agent.
Some state laws protect genetic and health-related data specifically. We never collect genetic data. We treat a carrier check request, and any interest in the carrier check you tell us about, as sensitive: we use it only to help you with that request and never share it for advertising.
Visitors outside the US
We're based in the United States and our providers store data in the United States. If you're in the UK, the European Union or another region with data-protection laws, we rely on your consent to process your signup or carrier check request, and on our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used for analytics. You can withdraw consent or turn analytics off at any time. You have the rights listed above and the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children
The site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS, signups are stored in private storage that isn't publicly accessible, and access is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, which is why we designed the DNA check so your genetic data never reaches us in the first place.
The carrier check
When you request a carrier check, we email you the options, pricing and next steps for your region. The test itself is ordered by a licensed physician and run by a certified lab, which have their own consent and privacy terms that you'll see before you approve anything. Your request isn't shared with a lab or a doctor until you approve an option, and your test results go to you, not to us.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you by email before it takes effect.
